Long, meaty blogs are a dying art among freelancers. As many writers have figured out, you get more bang for your writing buck by taking it directly to social platforms where people hunger for new content and where new audiences for your work can shoot up overnight. If you follow me on social media, you’ve seen that I’m busy as a bee, hunting down news stories I find interesting and relevant to human sexuality, gender diversity, and sexual-freedom-allied communities, from BDSM to LGBTQ, swingers to sex-workers, plus news on reproductive rights, new sex studies, and important sexual health news.
Still, as I ruefully looked at the dwindling numbers of blog-readers who come here, I wondered if there would be some way to straddle what I’m doing on social media and my blog feed. I came up with two ideas. One was to write short thought blurts during the week. Not full essays, as I’ve been composing the past few years, just random ideas that swirl around my brain daily. This way, faithful followers will find fresh and more personal content from me here than anywhere else.
The second idea is to share highlights of the most popular stories on my FB Page with my accompanying comments. I like it because it’s simple and easy. And I do love to roll that way whenever possible. 😉

The ebbs and flows of social media are fascinating to me, and its numbers often mysterious. I love to look back on my week’s engagements to see how my expectations matched (or didn’t match) my audience’s preferences. It tells me a lot about people’s own sexual concerns and which stories they can relate to the most.
