About Dr. Gloria G. Brame

Dr. Gloria Brame blazed a revolutionary trail through the landscape of human sexuality, shattering taboos and challenging societal misconceptions with unapologetic intellect and fierce passion. From pioneering the first online BDSM support group on CompuServe in 1987 to her groundbreaking book,  Different Loving, published in 1993, she has become a fearless sexologist who has relentlessly championed sexual freedom and understanding.

Her work transcends mere academic exploration—it’s a calculated assault on sexual shame, dismantling restrictive myths and liberating human desire from the chains of cultural judgment.

Through her award-winning writing, provocative research, and unwavering commitment, Brame has not just documented sex and gender diversity—she has actively reshaped how society thinks about intimacy, power, and personal expression.

Each book, blog post, and project is a strategic strike against sexual repression, making her more than an author or therapist: she is a sexual liberation strategist who continues to expand the boundaries of human connection and self-understanding.

Her post-graduate work in sexual health and sex science has made her a prominent expert on BDSM and fetish sex, sex science, sexual wellness, sexual techniques, and relationship skills. Her research and original insights into the breadth of human sexuality have made her one of the most frequently cited sex experts in the world.

Her proudest achievement is that she has helped hundreds of thousands of people throughout her journey.

Brame holds an M.A. in English Literature (Columbia University, 1978) and a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality with a specialty in BDSM/fetish sex (Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, 2000). She is Emerita Professional of AASECT and a Member of the American Board of Sexology.
